2.4GHz Radio Module For Bluetooth Low Energy And Proprietary Protocols

Würth Elektronik introduces Ophelia-I, a 2.4 GHz Radio Module that operates from 2360 to 2500 MHz that comes without a firmware.

Radio communication has been a great medium for wireless communication between devices such as control systems, remote controls and sensors. And providing high frequencies to these applications of a radio module turns out to be an optimum solution, as the module provides best operating range for portable wireless Telecommand applications.

The Ophelia-I by Würth Elektronik is a 2.4 GHz Radio Module that operates from 2360 to 2500 MHz and comes without any pre-flashed firmware. The device supports Bluetooth Low Energy and proprietary protocols. The module is based on Nordic Semiconductor SoC nRF52805.

Ophelia-I consists of a 64 MHz Arm Cortex-M4 processor with 192 kB flash memory and 24 kB RAM. It delivers an output power ranging up to 4dBm which therefore provides a line-of-sight (LOS) range of 350 m. On the other hand the device has an Rx sensitivity (E.R.P.) of -85 dBm.

The radio requires a DC supply of 3 V and consumes less than 9.3 mA of current in Tx/Rx mode and 0.3 μA of current in sleep mode. The device comes with UART, SPI, I2C, ADC interfaces along with 10 configurable GPIOs. The Ophelia-I is available in a package that measures 7 x 9 x 2 mm and has an operating temperature range from -40 to +85 °C.
