Qualcomm Initiates A New Era of 10 Gbps Wi-Fi.


Qualcomm has announced a new line of Wi-Fi 7 ready family of platforms called the Networking Pro Series. The Wi-Fi 7 leverages advanced technology to maximize overall capacity, decrease latency and increase the speed of every device. It is the third-generation of professional networking platform from the chip manufacturing giant. The lineup of Wi-Fi chips supports multiple channels and has been developed for enterprise access points, premium home routers, and advanced mesh systems. The Wi-Fi 7 is capable of achieving 4x data transfer rates compared to its predecessor Wi-Fi 6E.

According to the company, the Wi-Fi 7 can deliver peak rates of over 40 Gbps, a 4X increase over Wi-Fi 6E, and point-to-point connections exceeding 10 Gbps. It is available in tri-band, and quad-band configurations, supports multiple channels, and enables Wi-Fi connectivity across the 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz spectrum. The products are said to offer support for Wi-Fi 7 across 320MHz channels, delivering a two-times increase in throughput over Wi-Fi 6.

“Qualcomm Technologies has enabled the era of 10 Gbps Wi-Fi with our first customer deliveries of the Wi-Fi 7 Networking Pro Series,” said Nick Kucharewski, senior vice president and general manager, Wireless Infrastructure and Networking, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “Combining support for the latest Wi-Fi 7 innovations with our unique product architecture, the platform enables solutions ranging from whole-home mesh to connectivity networks for large public venues. With this product line, we anticipate a new class of customer systems for both today’s applications and the emerging Wi-Fi 7 ecosystem.”

The company claims that with the extreme wireless internet speeds and low latency, Wi-Fi 7 opens doors for resource-intensive use cases such as low-latency extended reality (XR), social cloud-based gaming, 8K video streaming, and simultaneous video conferencing and casting. The newly launched Wi-Fi 7 is said to standardize an advanced modulation scheme called 4K QAM, which is capable of achieving higher peak rates thus increasing the throughput and capacity when compared to the currently used Wi-Fi systems using 1K QAM modulation
